No IP for controller

Post by kirkaholic » Thu Jun 15, 2017 8:29 am

Yesterday I installed my new Autelis pool control for Jandy. Unit powered up, I see solid connection link light and data activity on rj45 port. However, the device does not seem to be able to obtain an IP address. I've reviewed my DHCP leases for the MAC according to the label on the device, and no lease granted for that MAC (unknown MAC addresses are NOT blocked by DHCP server). I downloaded the Autelis port scanner, which was worthless - no IP addresses at all found, so I downloaded Advanced Port Scanner. Scanned all 255 addresses across all ports, and none matched the MAC. I tried each with port 80 open anyway, and none were the device. Thinking it might be a cabling issue, I plugged a laptop into the same ethernet cable serving the device and instantly received a valid IP address from the DHCP server. I plugged the ethernet back in, reset the device, link light solid, data light flashing, but no DHCP lease.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks for your post.

Please try a factory reset: Use a pen tip to depress the reset button on the back of the device for 2 seconds until the lights on the ethernet port turn off, then immediately release.

In rare cases some routers will not be compatible and users have found success inserting a basic 10/100 switch in between the Autelis device and router.

Thanks, I've tried a reset twice now (as referenced in the last sentence of my post) with no success.

I already have a 10/100 switch between device and router.

Any other ideas?

Here's more detail. Using DHCPDUMP, I can see both the BOOTPREQUEST request and response, however, POOLCONTROL doesn't accept the BOOTPREPLY and requests again a few seconds later:

FYI in case anyone runs into this in the future. The issue turned out to be a bad network cable. Worked fine for a PC, but not with the Autelis controller.

Autelis support was awesome BTW.
